Backing compounds for crushers:

At first glance, backing compound might seem like a straightforward matter: a bit of epoxy resin, some filler, and the necessary amount of hardener. That's how it appears, if one doesn't contemplate the required quality indicators, the stability of the resulting dispersive system over time, the curing time, and other seemingly obscure factors. In pursuit of "economy," some operators of gyratory and cone crushers opt for the cheapest compound available, which ultimately leads to longer equipment downtimes for repairs, and in some cases, failure of individual crusher components. It's worth noting that it's not always easy to discern that equipment failure occurred due to subpar compound quality.

At FINSAD Group, during the development of the AUROX backing compound, it was decided at the initial stage to conduct fundamental research aimed at answering the question of what constitutes a "good" backing compound. Here are some points addressing this question:

  • 1
Necessary compressive strength, determined through analysis of crusher operation and processed ore.
  • 2
Minimal viscosity across a wide temperature range, facilitating the filling of interstitial spaces.
  • 3
Sedimentation stability, ensuring consistent properties throughout the compound volume and easing preparation for compound.
  • 4

Optimal curing time of the compound. On one hand, there should be sufficient time to pour the

necessary volume, while on the other hand, downtime should be minimized.

Considering these criteria individually, the task is quite simple. However, when it's necessary to achieve all parameters simultaneously, it becomes a rather complex scientific problem.

Based on this, we conducted scientific research for several years aimed at understanding all the physical and chemical processes occurring in the developed system at three stages: component mixing, prolonged storage, and the curing process.

Today, FINSAD Group is capable of developing compounds tailored to meet any customer requirements, whether it's a compound with enhanced strength (exceeding 130 MPa in compression) or a compound cured at temperatures below 0°C.
